Drop a pebble in the water…
Just a splash, and it’s gone.
But there are half a hundred ripples,
Circling on and on and on…
Circling outward from the center,
Circling onward to the sea.
And there is no way of knowing….
Where the end is gonna be.
Some of you may remember this old campfire song from your childhood. It also brings to mind the quote by Robert F. Kennedy from a speech he gave in South Africa on June 6, 1966.
“Sending Forth Ripples of Hope” is the theme of Avivara’s annual fundraising appeal this fall. Over the next several months we will be sending out emails and letters to our past donors and social network followers asking them to make a donation to our programs for 2013. With support from you and others, we look forward to continuing and expanding our work to improve education in Guatemala in the following areas:
School Improvement Grants: These grants provide much needed teaching materials, student supplies, classroom equipment and teacher development workshops in rural, poverty-impacted villages.
Scholarships: Avivara scholarships helped 43 students continue their studies on into junior high, high school and at the university level in 2012. We would like to expand that number to at least 50 or more next year.
After-School Learning Centers: These programs provide a safe and secure environment for students to receive help with their homework and engage in critical and creative thinking activities.
So, be on the lookout for more information on how your donation can help improve educational opportunities for the children of Guatemala. To paraphrase the (in)famous words of Richard J. Daley, ex-Mayor and undisputed Democratic boss of Chicago, we encourage you to “Donate Early, Donate Often.” You won’t be sorry you did. In fact, it will make you feel really good!

I will donate the proceeds from an on line print sale……..www.billyking.com
Billy,
Thank you for your offer of a donation. Your support and encouragement is much appreciated, especially since you know and understand first-hand the poverty in South and Central America. Peace.
